We offer small watercraft storage at Brittingham Boats and Wingra Boats
It is our goal to make boat ownership enjoyable and to make getting out on the water easy.

Wingra Marina
For the easiest lake access, we have on-water boat slips built off of our main piers for all kayaks and canoes. Kayaks are stored in two-tiered “kayak condos” with upper and lower storage levels. Larger paddlecraft, such as canoes or tandem kayaks, are also stored over the water in single level rows. Boats can be launched from various low water entry points constructed into the piers, or by carrying the craft to our main in-water launch. SUPs are stored on an on land rack and can be carried to any launch point. Finally, we offer either in-water OR pull-up storage for rowboats and sailboats, both options being constructed off of our existing piers.

Mid-May through Sep 27, 2026, weather permitting. Start date depends on finalization of pier construction for the summer season. Any marina members will be notified about specific drop off times by May 1.

Lake Description
Lake Wingra is a magical, generally very calm, smaller lake on Madison’s near west side. Popular with many neighbors, community members, fishermen, youth programming participants, and more, the best access is here at Wingra Boats! Wingra’s depth can be hard to grasp in comparison to its size, but the deepest point is about 15 feet with a mucky bottom layer. It won’t take you long to explore Wingra, but it is perfect for moments of connection with the surrounding beauty of the Arboretum, Madison’s skyline, and all the wildlife in between.

When storing your boat at Wingra Boats, you are always welcome to head out on the lake on your own. However, a huge benefit of storing with us is having access to a helping hand! Our helpful Wingra Boats Crew is here to assist you with loading and unloading your boat as they are able and can provide life jackets or paddles in the event they are needed. We are generally available during our open hours of 8:30am – 8pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Check out our home page for spring and fall hours.

Brittingham Marina
The easiest way to get quick access to Lake Monona! All canoes, kayaks, and SUPs are stored on racks that are a few steps from Brittingham Beach while also being close to our parking lot, making pickup/drop-off for paddling day trips elsewhere a breeze. Make enjoying your boat easy, and make the most of your summer.

Lake Description
Lake Monona is full of attractions within an hour paddle of Monona Bay. Brittingham Boats, you’ll launch out and start on Monona Bay to get your sea-legs before paddling under John Nolan Drive and out onto Lake Monona, where your paddle really begins! Paddle towards the Monona Terrace for a more urban paddle, with breathtaking views of the Madison Skyline, or head south and feel like you’re outside of the city within a few moments. Lake Monona has something for everyone and is a very popular fishing spot for all sorts of anglers, as well as being home to some beautiful paddling destinations like paddling up Wingra Creek, across the lake for a view of the olbrich botanical gardens from the water and the golden Pagota, or head south and make your way down the yahara river, which has a handful of restaurants for a quick bite and bathroom break before paddling on. There’s something for everyone to enjoy on lake Monona, and it all starts with reserving your marina space at Brittingham Boats.

Use your boat anytime you’d like, in season or not, but during our summer season, the Brittingham Boats crew is here to help if you want it! We are generally available during our open hours of 8:30am – 8pm in the heat of summer. Spring and Fall hours change year to year, so check out our home page for our hours of operation.

Winter Storage
Your boat will be stored indoors at our maintenance facility here in Madison. If you have stored with us previously and have arranged for winter storage, we try our best to keep your boat on the rack as long as possible, so you can squeeze every last paddle in before winter. If you sign up for winter storage, we’ll move it and bring it back in the spring. (date on when it will be back out of storage to be determined.) If you are new to our winter storage, we will arrange for you to drop your boat off with us at Wingra Boats to be tagged for winter storage.

Important things to know:
Please DO NOT PUT YOUR BOAT ON THE DOCK/RACKS without the assistance of our staff.
If this is your first year (or want a refresher) we are happy to give some tips on easiest way to get your boat in and out of the slip/rack.
Please lock up your boat. A 6-8’ bike cable works well. We require combo locks (keys go in the water).
You are welcome to take your boat off site (we love to know so we are not worried), and you are welcome to let others use your boat.
We assume if the person knows your combo, they have your permission.
We are happy to help you getting your boat to the water when we are not assisting rental customers.
You are welcome to use your boat outside our business hours (one of the main benefits). FYI park hours are 4 am to 10 pm.
You are welcome to modify your spot to protect/fit your boat (pool noodles/towels etc). If the spot needs physical alteration (too wide/too narrow,) please let one of our team members know AND send us an email so management can follow up.
